September 2006

Roz joins Rep. Ralph Becker in this statement on proposed tax changes: "The proposed Special Session is not addressing Utah 's most pressing need: providing a public education system that gives every child an opportunity to succeed, to realize his or her dreams. Utah Democrats remain committed to that effort and we look forward to working with the Governor and our legislative colleagues to invest in Utah 's future by putting kids first."

May 2006

Rep. McGee's HB 30 was signed by the governor this month. The bill will allow 16- and 17-year olds to petition state courts for emanicpation from their parents. It will help teens, many of whom are homeless or have fled abusive families, obtain legal means to secure housing, education funding, and other services. January 2006

Roz McGee and Sen. Karen Hale will hold a town meeting at Dilworth Elementary School (1953 South 2100 East) at 7:00 PM on Thursday, Jan. 19.

December 2005

Roz attended the National Conference of State Legislatures' winter meeting in Chicago and participated in a seminar on the implementation of the HAVA (Help America Vote Act) in the state. The seminar also reviewed recent court rulings on redistricting and the decision of the US Supreme Court to review Texas' recent redistricting plan. A decision is expected before June 2006. The ruling has the potential to affect Utah's redistricting in 2011.

November 12, 2004

Rep. McGee has been selected as a participant for the Western Legislative Academy, a prestigious training institute sponsored by the Council of State Governments-West. The purpose of the academy is to build excellence and effectiveness in state legislators in the Western region.

Approximately 40 state legislators from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming were chosen as members of the Academy's Class of 2004.

The Academy will convene December 7-10 in Colorado Springs for three and a half days of intensive training in subjects such as the legislative institution, ethics, team building, communications, legislative strategies and working relationships, negotiations and time management. CSG-West is a nonpartisan organization serving Western state legislators.

November 11, 2004

Rep. McGee has been elected House Minority Caucus Manager following her reelection in 2004. As Caucus Manager, she will be one of the four elected leaders in the Democratic minority in the House. Her responsibilities will include advancing the Democratic Party's ideas and agenda, as well as helping promote the issues of Democrats in the House.

In addition, Rep. McGee has also been appointed to the Executive Appropriations Committee and the Legislative Management Committee. Both of these appointments will allow her to better promote the interests of all Utahns, especially District 28 residents.
